Rubén Dubrovsky is a conductor, artistic director, and festival curator based in Vienna. As a specialist in early music as well as a dedicated interpreter of classical, romantic, and contemporary repertoire, he collaborates internationally with orchestras, opera houses, and independent ensembles. His artistic profile is defined by stylistic versatility, dramaturgical clarity, and a synthesis of analytical thinking and expressive musicianship.

 Since the 2023/24 season, Dubrovsky has been Chief Conductor of the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz in Munich. In 2025, he was appointed Principal Guest Conductor of the Cologne Opera. In 1999, he founded the Bach Consort Wien, which under his direction has become one of Austria’s leading Baroque ensembles. With this ensemble, he has performed at venues such as the Vienna Musikverein, Theater an der Wien, Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Bolshoi Theatre Moscow, and Palau de la Música Valencia, as well as at festivals including Styriarte, Carinthischer Sommer, Handel Festival Halle, Festival Estoril Lisbon, Schwetzingen Festival, and the MiTo Festival in Milan and Turin.

His operatic repertoire focuses on Handel, Mozart, and Italian Baroque opera. He has conducted productions of Handel’s Giulio Cesare, Rinaldo, Agrippina, Radamisto, Tamerlano, Orlando, Semiramide, Oreste, Alcina, Serse, Semele, Il trionfo del Tempo e del Disinganno, and The Triumph of Time and Truth; Mozart’s Mitridate, Idomeneo, La clemenza di Tito, Le nozze di Figaro, Così fan tutte, Die Zauberflöte, and Don Giovanni; as well as works by Monteverdi, Vivaldi, Lully, Scarlatti, Gluck, Rossini, Nicolai, Martín y Soler, Bizet (Carmen), and Stravinsky (The Rake’s Progress). Guest engagements have taken him to the Semperoper Dresden, Palau de les Arts Valencia, Teatro Colón Buenos Aires, and the opera houses of Leipzig, Bonn, Munich, and Cologne, among others.

 In the concert hall, his repertoire spans from the 18th to the 21st century, including works by Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven, Cherubini, Mendelssohn, Schumann, Brahms, Dvořák, Wagner, Zemlinsky, R. Strauss, Bloch, Ravel, Dukas, Bartók, Gershwin, Weinberg, Shostakovich, Pärt, and Strasnoy.

 From 2016 to 2023, Dubrovsky served as Artistic Director of Third Coast Baroque in Chicago. He is also Artistic Director of the Mittersill Festival, which explores the connections between classical music and traditional musical cultures from Salzburg and around the world.

 A distinctive aspect of his work is the exploration of connections between European Baroque music and Latin American traditions. Internationally recognized projects such as Bach to the Roots (ORF), Vidala (Gramola), Sarabanda, Musica Chamanica, and Viola Latina present these intersections as vibrant artistic dialogue. Vidala was nominated in two categories for the German Record Critics’ Award.

His discography includes Handel’s Messiah, Pace e Guerra (Sony/Harmonia Mundi), Monteverdi’s Selva morale e spirituale (ORF/DVD), and TV productions such as Winterklang (ORF/3sat). His recordings have been released on Gramola, Sony/Harmonia Mundi, and Naxos.

Rubén Dubrovsky ist Dirigent, künstlerischer Leiter und Festivalintendant mit Sitz in Wien. Projekte wie Bach to the Roots (ORF), Vidala (Gramola), Sarabanda, Musica Chamanica und Viola Latina wurden international präsentiert und vielfach ausgezeichnet. Die CD Vidala war in zwei Kategorien für den Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik nominiert.
